Dark & Stormy on a Dark & Stormy night

Ahhhhhh. So, a tropical wave moved in tonight. Hurricane Season started officially June 1st- the waters are starting to warm up, which means tropical storms and thunder! Oh, and power outages. Thank Goodness for a generator!

Right now there is thunder happening, occasional cloud to cloud lightening, and a good breeze. This is the coolest it has been for WEEKS.

Also: Enjoying a Dark and Stormy.

Today I was Rolfed. I talked about my first session- this was my third. Expect a more in detail post later. But, needless to say- I feel good, but sore. So sore I took a muscle relaxant followed by some rum. Hiking on the beaches with a broken toe then having major body work done leads to some major soreness. But- progress!

I needed something nourishing for dinner- so I made Rum-Roasted Carrot Curry soup. Yum!

Cold rum drink, warm soup, breeze & lightening show. My front porch is beautiful. Sigh.

Dark and Stormy Cocktail
Some may argue that a true Dark&Stormy must be made with Bermuda Ginger Beer & Goslings rum. I disagree- use the local rum!
My Rum of Choice for a D&S is Cruzan Blackstrap. However, tonight we had Cruzan Single Barrel, which is aged 12 years and won Worlds Best Rum in 2000. (Cruzan Rum Wikipedia Page)

Served in: High Ball full of ice cubes
2-4oz Rum of Choice
Fill with Ginger Beer (Not ginger ale!)
Optional: Garnish with a lime.

I don't normally garnish with the lime. But it is a refreshing, delicious cocktail. Using the Cruzan Blackstrap Rum makes it a little sweeter. Don't use light rum or you'll be sad.

Coming Soon : Mango & Chile sauce!

Rolfing : Everything I've ever wanted from a massage, but never got.

Last Friday I was Rolfed.

I was a little apprehensive about my session- so I read quite a bit online.

For a quick overview (for those who don't want to click the above link), rolfing, also called Structural Integration is a method of bodywork that focuses on the connective tissue (fascia) in your body. Rolfing is supposed to release tension, lengthen the fascia- and in general un-do all the years of sleeping on couches, sitting at a computer, heavy luggage, dancing on tables, and whatever else it is that you can put your body through. It is done as a series of sessions- each one building on another in specific order.

I decided to try Rolfing as a way to deal with debilitating tension headaches. When they hit, they can last for days. I can't focus, my entire head/neck/shoulders area hurts, and I can't eat. I have muscle relaxers- but take one of them and good luck getting anything out of me.

I've had massages. While they make me feel more relaxed- I never saw any lasting changes.
I've also been to a chiropractor- and I finally felt relief! For- about 3 days, when I'd go back and we would pop everything back into place, again. Then, 3 days later....

At this point- my choices are A) Take even stronger pain medication, but still suffer when I don't have the luxury of 6 hours of loopy or B) Find a different method. Enter, Rolfing.

Session One:
The first session begins with your Rolfer watching how you walk, then stripping you down to bra & panties and standing you in front of a full-length mirror while pointing out that you carry the right shoulder higher than your left, you lock your knees when you walk, and your head is not being supported on your spine properly.

Gee, thanks. Just what I've always wanted- to stand almost naked in front of a full-length mirror with a stranger pointing out my flaws.

Then you lay down and they begin the body work. The point of the first session is to work all around your ribcage, shoulders and torso. Let me say- that this can be painful once your Rolfer hits various "tight spots" or places of restrictive movement.

But oh my goodness- what a "Good Pain". Every single time she worked down a muscle (painful in spots) it felt just "right".

This is what I'd been wanting out of Deep-Tissue massages my entire life.

I was sore the next day- but my ribcage feels "expanded"- it is a good feeling.

Well, I guess it is time to carve out my niche in the virtual world (besides all those un-tagged photos that may be out there). And, it is as good of a time as any.

I'm in the midst of my Journey- and about to start another involving personal enhancement.

So- welcome- to my thoughts about life, the universe and everything.

Things I may Write About (but may not necessarily):
My travels
My various classes/lessons
Dinosaurs
My Diet/Workout
My Garden (Year-Round!)
The Cows that Wander Up the Hill & Eat our Palm Fronds
Things to do When Travelling
and
just a bit of scintillating detail or language that may(or may not) make me 100% Parent Approved.

But I do clean up well.
